In front of 50,374 in attendance, the Miami Dolphins defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24 in double OT, in what has become to this day, the longest game in NFL history. Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the 3rd period. In the 4th quarter, Kansas City drove 91 yards, capped by a 3-yard touchdown run by Ed Pokalak. The Dolphins countered by marching 71 yards, with Bob Griese's 5-yard touchdown pass to Marv Fleming, tying the game at 24-24. Podalak returned the ensuing kickoff to Miami's 22-yard line with only 1:25 remaining in regulation. Kansas City kicker Jan Stenerud then proceeded to miss a field goal. The game proceeded into overtime and Stenerud had another field goal attempt blocked in double overtime.
